More Olympic Shenanigans!

One of the highlights of the Finland - Belarus hockey game was the appearance of the Australian fighting kangaroo!
Now as you may have heard this kangaroo has been the subject of considerable controversy. If you missed the story, check it out: here. Well if you thought that an international incident had been avoided, you obviously had not counted on the fact that the Montreal Police sent over Inspector Clouseau as part of the 2010 security team.
Here is a verbatim transcript of the actual dialogue.
Australian Kangaroo: "Hi kids, like everyone else I'm here for a good time."
Montreal Police officer: "Yeah right you long eared marsupial, you're not allowed down here. Get lost or I'm taking you in."Well there are photos a plenty from the past few days but so many that it is taking forever to download them. Olympic Experience Continues

The emotions of Canada's first gold were still running high for our second Olympic event. Luckily this one, the women's 500 metre speed skating, was located a little closer to home.
Mom is pumped.
Dad is ready to go.
The oval was beautiful and clearly is the Crown jewel of the games. Unfortunately, Canada didn't win any medals, but it was still an awesome event.
The fun wasn't over for the day because the first men's hockey game was tonight. In case you were wondering, Madeleine lets you know who is #1!

Cheese.

A moment in history

Canada has hosted the Olympics twice before and has never won a gold medal at either event. Needless to say, the first Canadian to take the top of the podium in Vancouver would immediately take on heroic status. Tonight's the night.


It started off like a fairly normal day. Sports Illustrated hadn't predicted a Canadian medal for the men's moguls. Mom and Dad hopped on the bus with tremendous excitement at their first Olympic event, but with really no expectations of anything other than watching a pretty cool sporting experience.
Two tickets to paradise.
Can't figure out who these folks are cheering for and maybe they thought they were at the summer games, but they seem like they're having a good time.
The excitement builds.
The worries about the weather were unfounded. The place looked great.
Dad sells out.

During his qualification run, some Canadian named Alexandre Bilodeau caught some sweet air and did a pretty nice back flip iron cross.
Dad's got a fever and the only prescription is more cowbell.
Nice toque mom, but where are the famous red mittens?
Nice.
Of course, as it turned out Bilodeau finished second heading into the finals. He then put on the performance of a lifetime, made the whole mountain shake and an entire nation proud.
Gold at last.

After years of waiting, the 2010 Olympics start tomorrow. Madeleine is ready. Go Canada!

Olympic Torch Run

I'm not sure if you have heard or not, but there is this little event coming to town. It is called the Olympics. In fact, it starts in a mere two days. If you pardon my French, I think that Canada is going to clean house. Part of the run up to the opening ceremonies on Friday is the running of the Olympic flame and tonight it made its way to Steveston. The whole family got geared up for the event with their fancy red gloves. Editor's note: why didn't HBC make them in dog size? Mr. B
